This consists of two different series:

1) 15-17-23 and 2) 60-58-52-40

Showing the pattern of the first series:

15

17=15+1*2

23= 17+2*3

35= 23+3*4- would be the next term if continued

55= 35+4*5 - would be following term if continued

 Showing the pattern of the second series:

60

58=60-1*2

52=58-2*3

40=52-3*4

20=40-4*5- would be the next term if continued

As we see the only odd number is 53 which doesn't fit in any pattern

Answer is 53
