Suppose

Father's age is = F

Son's age is = S

Given

F + S = 56 (The sum of father’s and Son's age)

7 years ago father's age = F- 7

7 years ago son's age = S - 7

Now, Set the equation (father's age was 2 times of son's age)

F - 7 = 2(S - 7)

We got our two equation

F + S = 56 …(1)

F - 2Y = -7 …(2)

Solve equation (1) and (2) for F and S.

F = 35 and S = 21

Father's present age = 35

Son's present age = 21
