Epics are deeds of heroic and legendary figures. They describe conflicts between good and evil, 'dharma'

and 'adharma'. In India, we have two important epics - the Ramayana and Mahabharata. The Ramayana

is the story of Rama and Sita and the fight between Rama and Ravana. The Mahabharata is the story of

the conflict between two sets of cousins, the Kauravas and the Pandavas.​

Epics are deeds of heroic and legendary figures. They are to describe conflicts bety good and evil, the dharma and adharma that rises in the society. In India, we have two important epics :

  • The Ramayana
  • The Mahabharata

These two great epics, laid the foundation for Indian literary culture and are the ones that offer all the foundational principles that one has to live with in his/her life for Hindus.

The Ramayana is the story of Rama and Sita and the fight between Rama and Ravana. This great epic makes us understand how a perfect man should be in the aspects of love, duties as a king, respect towards parents and etc from the character of Rama. Also, the characters Sita and Ravan teach us how an ideal woman should be and how one's never-ending desires cause him to ruin himself. This epic also revolves around the characters Lakshamana, Hanuman and etc who preach us the duties of a person towards his sibling and master.

The Mahabharata is the story of the conflict between two sets of cousins, the Kauravas and the Pandavas. This influential epic makes one know the importance of political values, love towards blood relations and etc. This epic also deals with the divine existence of man and the prevailing socio-religious systems of the past.
