The total money spent by them was Rs.1328.57.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

10 of 15friends spent 120 each on their food.

Rest 5 friends spent 40 more than the average expenditure of all the 15.

To Find:

The total money spent by them.

Formula Used:

The average expenditure = Total expenditure done by all friends /Number of  all friends

Solution:

Let the  money spent by rest 5 friends  is P.

As given - 10 of 15friends spent 120 each on their food.

            The money spent by 10 friends = 10\times 120= 1200 \ Rs.

Total money spent by all friends=  The money spent by 10 friends + the  money spent by rest 5 friends

                                                  =1200 +P

The average expenditure = Total expenditure done by all friends /Number of  all friends

                                          =\frac{1200+P}{15}

As given - Rest 5 friends spent 40 more than the average expenditure of all the 15.

 P= (\frac{1200+P}{15} ) +40

15P= 1200+P+40\times 15

15P= 1200+P+600

14P = 1800

    P= 128.57

The total money spent by them =    The money spent by 10 friends + the  money spent by rest 5 friends

                                                    = 1200+ 128.57

                                                    = 1328.57  Rs.

Thus, the total money spent by them is Rs. 1328.57.
