  • Required time is equal to 12 days.

Given :- 4 goats or 6 sheep can graze a field in 40 days .

To Find :- In how many days will 8 goats and 8 sheep take to graze the same field ?

Solution :-

since it is given that, 4 goats or 6 sheep can graze a field in 40 days . we can say that, 4 goats graze same as 6 sheep .

So, let each goat graze G units and each sheep graze S units .

then,

→ 4G = 6S

→ G/S = 6/4

→ G/S = 3/2

now let us assume that, G is equal to 3x and S is equal to 2x .

So,

→ Total grass in field = 40 × 4G = 40 × 4 × 3x = 480x units .

Or,

→ Total grass in field = 40 × 6S = 40 × 6 × 2x = 480x units .

now,

→ 8G graze per day = 8 × 3x = 24x units

→ 8S graze per day = 8 × 2x = 16x units .

→ (8G + 8S) graze per day = 24x + 16x = 40x units .

therefore,

→ Total time taken to graze the same filed = Total grass in filed / (8G + 8S) graze per day = 480x/40x = 12 days (Ans.)

Hence, 8 goats and 8 sheep take 12 days to graze the same field.
