15. In electrolysis of water, What gases are obtained at both electrodes? Is the volume of the gas collected the

ANSWER :

Take a plastic mug drill two holes at its base and fit rubber stopper in these holes. then insert carbon electrodes in the rubber stopper

connect these electrodes to a battery and fill the mug with water sulphuric acid

Take two test tubes filled with water and invert them over two electrodes

switch on the current there will be formation of bubbles at both electrodes

collect the gases and then test them

Observation : The volume of hydrogen gas which is produced at cathode is twice the volume of oxygen gas produ
