When strong acids are mixed with water a large amount of heat is released. Addition of more acid releases more heat. If we add water to acid, it forms an extremely concentrated solution of acid initially such that solution may boil very violently releasing heat, splashing concentrated acid out of the container. If you add acid to water, the solution that forms is very dilute and a very little amount of heat is released with out involving any violent reactions. So Always Add Acid to water, and never the reverse. Hence we should add 5 ml of sulphuric acid to 10 ml of water.

(ii) The process of adding 5ml of sulphuric acid to 10 ml of water is called dilution of acids
