15 pastries and 12 biscuits packets have been donated for a school fete . These are to be packed in several smaller identical boxes with the same no. of pastries and biscuit packets in each . How many biscuit packets and how many pastries will each box contain? ?..... why here HCF of 15 and 12 is giving no. of boxes not pastries and biscuits??

HCF is giving the number of pastries because ; 1. one simple technique is that is we know answer is less than given number ( ex. 15 and 12 ) then we have to find the HCF or 2. if we pack largest number of pastries in box so that boxes will be needed less and will be identical.

Answer :

To find the number of biscuit packets and pastries, we should find HCF of 15 and 12

Prime factors of 15 = 3 × 5

Prime factors of 12 = 2 × 2 × 3

Therefore HCF of 15 and 12 is: 3

Number of pastries = = 5

Number of biscuit packets = = 4

Neha15081: because if we pack Highest number of pastries then minimum boxes will be needed ..you can't keep whtever number of pastries in box
