Muscle fibers contain numerous tubular myofibrils. Myofibrils are composed of repeating sections of sarcomeres, which appear under the microscope as alternatingdark and light bands. Sarcomeres are composed of long, fibrous proteins as filaments that slide past each other when amuscle contracts or relaxes.
