Answer:

If the current direction is changed, the magnetic field direction also changes which can be noticed by a magnetic compass.

Explanation:

Given a solenoid with 50 turns, a magnetic compass, a 3V battery,  rheostat and switch.

A solenoid consists of a soft iron bar wounded with a wire.

Connect the two ends of wire of solenoid to the battery, rheostat and switch in series.

When the switch is on, current flows through the wire, and the solenoid behaves a magnet, i.e., electromagnet.

To find the direction of current and magnetic field, using right hand rule, wrap the right hand fingers in a circular way along the direction of current, then the thumb shows the direction of the magnetic field.

Place a compass in this magnetic field, north of the compass align along the direction of thumb showing the direction of magnetic field.

If the polarity is changed, that is if we reverse the battery connection, the magnetic field reverses and the magnetic compass shows the respective direction.

If we change the strength of current using the rheostat, the change in the deflections of the compass also can be noticed.

Thus, the connection between the given components can be used to study the polarity of the solenoid.
