let 1/x=a,1/y=b

so eq.

15a+4b=7----------(1)

9a-8b=-1-----------(2)

multiplyingeq.(1)with 2

30a+8b=14---------(3)

by eleminating eq 2and 3 we get--

a=1/3. ,. b=1/2

by resubsituting

1/x=a. ,. 1/y=b

1/x=1/3. ,. 1/y=1/2

after cross multiplication

x=3. ,. y=2
