Question:

15 (y - 4) - 2 (y - 9) + 5 (y+6) = 0 Find y .

Solution:

We have

15 (y - 4) -2( y - 9) + 5 (y +6) =0

Simplifying

15y - 60 -2y +18 +5y + 30 =0

Re arranging

15y -2y +5y + 18 +30 -60 =0

Adding and subtracting like terms

20y -2y +48 -60 =0

=> 18y - 12 =0

=> 18y = 12

 =  > y =  \frac{18}{  12}  \\  \\  =  > y =  \frac{2}{3}

Hence, the value of y is 2/3

{\mathcal\red{\underline {\underline{Step-by-step\:Explaination:}}}}

15(y - 4) - 2(y - 9) + 5(y + 6) = 0 \\ ⇒15y - 60 - 2y + 18 + 5y + 30 = 0 \\ ⇒18y =   60 - 18 - 30 \\ ⇒18y = 12 \\ ⇒y =  \frac{18}{12}  \\ ∴y = 1.5
