(a) The method to be followed is that , acid (sulphuric acid) should be added to water , and not vice versa. That is , water should NEVER be added to acid. This is because water reacts very vigorously when added to acid, and releases a large amount of heat , and splashes the concentrated acid( sulphuric acid) out of the container. Hence, it is COMPULSORY to add acid to water , as only a little amount of heat is released,and also the reaction won't be that violent.
(b) The process of adding acid to water , is called dilution of acids.
Answer- 1- We should mix the sulphuric acid in the water drop by drop and with a constant stirring to avoid any splash and accident. 2- The process is called Dilution
