Let the present age of the son be x

Father is 30 years older than son = x + 30

After 12 years :

Son's age = x + 102

Father's age = x + 30 + 12 = x + 42

According to the question :

3(x + 12) =  x + 42

3x + 36 = x + 42

3x - x = 42 - 36

2x = 6

x = 6/2

x = 3

Present age of son = x = 3 years

Present age of father = x + 30 = 3 + 30 = 33 years

Let present age of

Son=x

Father=y

Given that

x+30=y

x=y-30

In 12 years

son will be

x+12=(y-30)+12

=y-18

in 12 years

Father will be

y+12

Given that

y+12=3 (x+12)

y+12=3 ((y-30)+12)

y+12=3 (y-18)

y+12=3y-54

54+12=3y-y

66=2y

2y=66

y=66/2

y=33

Fathers present age is 33

x=y-30

x=33-30

x=3

Son's present age is 3

Hope it helps. ......
