16. A rectangular piece of ground is 45 m long and 30 m wide. It has two roads each 1 m wide running midwan
within it, one parallel to the length and the other parallel to the breadth. Find the area of the roads. also,
calculate the area of the remaining ground.

Length = 45 m

Breadth = 30 m

Area of whole piece of rectangular land = L*B

⇒ 45*30 = 1350 m²

So, area of the whole rectangular piece of land = 1350 m²

Now,  

Length of the 1st road parallel to the length = 45 m

Breadth of the 1st road parallel to the length = 1 m

Area of the 1st road = 45*1

= 45 m²

Length of the 2nd road parallel to the breadth = 30 m

Breadth of the 2nd road parallel to the breadth = 1 m

Area of the 2nd road = 30*1

= 30 m²

Area of the common part of 2 roads = 1*1  

= 1 m²

Total area of 2 roads = Area of 1st road + Area of 2nd road - Area of common part

⇒ (45 + 30) - 1

⇒ 75 - 1

= 74 m²

So, the area of the 2 roads is 74 m²

Now,

Area of the remaining ground = Area of the whole rectangular piece of land - Area of 2 roads

⇒ 1350 - 74

= 1276 m²

Area of the remaining ground is 1276 m².
