16.A vessel is filled with milk and water.
70% of milk and 30% of water is taken
out of the vessel. It is found that the
vessel is vacated by 55% and has 160 L
mixture. Find the quantity of milk and
water in this mixture.

Percentage of milk taken out from the vessel = 70%

Percentage of water taken out from the vessel = 30%

Let the initial quantity of milk be x L

Since, The total mixture is 80 L so the initial quantity of water be (80 - x) L

Also, The vessel is vacated by 55%

⇒ 70% of x + 30% of (80 - x) = 55% of 80

⇒ 0.7x + 0.3 × (80 - x) = 0.55 × 80

⇒ 0.7x + 24 - 0.3x = 44

⇒ 0.4x = 44 - 24

⇒ 0.4x = 20

⇒ x = 50

Therefore, Initial quantity of milk = 50 L and the initial quantity of water = 30 L
