Given:

★equation 2(x + 7) = 18

To Find:

Check if -2 is the solution.

Solution:

2 (-2+7)

-4 +14

Since it is a linear equation, the equation will have only one solution.

There are 2 ways of doing this:

WAY 1:

Equation = 2 ( x + 7 ) = 18

2x + 14 = 18

2x = 4

x = 2

Solution of equation is 2 which is not equal to the given solution. So, x = -2 is not a solution of this equation.

WAY 2:

2 ( x + 7 ) = 18

Putting the given value of x i.e. -2

2 ( -2 + 7 )

2 ( 5 )

= 10

Since 10 ≠ 18

Therefore x = -2 is not a solution of this equation.
