sodium hydroxide 3naoh -- gives sodium stearate hydrophobic part hate water and hydrophilic water lover the tail part work to cleaning action but they can not work in hard water coz hard water contain calcium and magnesium ion this ion insoluble when sodium potassium dissolves in water I hope u can batter understand this phenomena of cleaning action of soap thank you

soaps are long chain fatry acids

acids are palimic , steric ,oleic acid

palimic acid present in palm oil, steric acid in animals olic acid in olive oil

now soap contain hydroplic and hydrophopic part one part is stic to oil as our body has oil by which our cloth become dirty and another part is to water and due to agitation cloth becomeclear
