16) As of March 2011, India’s population was 1,210.6 million which accounts for 17.5% of the world’s population.Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state of India as it counts about 16% of the country’s population.Almost half of India’s population lives in just five states which are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. Individuals of a population can be distributed in one of three basic patterns: they can be more or less equally spaced apart (uniform dispersion), dispersed randomly with no predictable pattern (random dispersion), or clustered in groups (clumped dispersion).
17) PUSH FACTORS - A push factor is a reason for migration that relates to the area the person comes from - something that is pushing them out of an area. Examples of push factors include economic factors, like a lack of economic opportunity and jobs. For example, the seasonal migration of Mexicans and Central Americans to the United States.
PULL FACTORS - A pull factor is a reason for migration that relates to the area of destination - something that is attracting them to an area. Examples of pull factors include an area being economically prosperous - having lots of jobs or a particularly large amount of freedom.
18) According to the United States Census Bureau, an urban area is a city with a population size of more than 2,500 people, and a rural area has a population of less than 2,500 people.
19) Human development refers to the process of widening and providing more choices to people, providing them more opportunities of education, healthcare, empowerment while covering all the choices from the physical environment to economic, social and political freedom.
•Human development is necessary because of the following reasons:
#The human development approach focusses on improving the lives of people rather than assuming that economic growth will lead automatically to greater opportunities for all.
#Human development is about giving people more freedom and opportunities to live lives they value, e.g. educating people, especially to girls.
#Human Development creates the right conditions for all. For eg. create environmental sustainability or equality between men and women. Once, the basics of human development are achieved, they open up opportunities for progress in other aspects of life.
#It also helps to create awareness among people towards their responsibilities as a citizen and human being to build up opinion for a reduction in the military expenditure, demobilisation of armed forces, disarmament and all those activities which are responsible for civil disturbances.
