The slave trade started in the seventeenth century. Slave trade started because the Europeans were not ready to go to the distant lands for trade as this will result in the shortage of labours in plantations. So this resulted in the triangular slave trade between Europe, Africa and America. The French merchants from the port of Nantes to the African coast brought slaves from the local chieftains. Through ships, they were brought to the Caribbean and sold to the plantation owners. Due to the slave trade, the ports like Bordeaux and Nantes witnessed economic prosperity.
