Solution:-

given by:- the equation of the line passing through the point (9, -1) and having its
x-intercept thrice as its y-intercept

we have :-

Let a and b are x and y-intercepts respectively.

》x - intercept (a) = 3

according to quetion:-

》(y-intercept) a = 3 b

The required line is passing through the point (9 , -1)

》(x/a) + (y/b) = 1

》(9/3b) - (1/b) = 1

》(9 - 3)/3b = 1

》6/3b = 1

》2/b = 1

》 2 = b

》y-intercept (b = 2)

》x -intercept ( a = 3×2 = 6)

》(x/6) + (y/2) = 1

》(x/6) + (3y/6) = 1

》x + 3 y = 6

》(x + 3y - 6 = 0   ) ans

Solution :

**************************************

Equation of a line whose

x-intercept = a ,

y-intercept = b , is

x/a + y/b = 1

******************************************
Here ,

Let y-intercept (b) = n

x-intercept ( a ) = 3n

Equation is ,

x/3n + y/n = 1 it is passing through

( 9 , -1 ) [ given ]

9/3n + (-1)/n = 1

=> 3/n - 1/n = 1

=> 2/n = 1

=> 2 = n

n = 2

y - intercept ( b ) = n = 2

x-intercept ( a ) = 3n = 3 × 2 = 6

Required equation ,

x/6 + y/2 = 1

=> x + 3y = 6
