If the organism respires aerobically then oxygen diffuses down a concentration gradient into the cell as the oxygen is used up. The cell surface membrane ofunicellular organisms is thin ensuring rapid gas exchange and it is moist to allow gases to dissolve. Most multicellularorganisms respire aerobically.
