 \bf\large{\underline{Question :-}}

The difference of mother's age and her daughter's is 21 years and the twelfth part of the product of their ages is less than the mother's age is by 18 years.Find the ages .

 \bf\large{\underline{Solution :-}}

  • let the age of Mother be = x
  • And age of Daughter be = y

 \bf\large{\underline</strong><strong>{</strong><strong>Given</strong><strong> :-}}

  • Difference b/w mother's and daughter age 12th part of the product of their age is less than the mother's age by 18.

Now,

→ x - y = 21

→ x = y + 21

\rm → x-\frac{1}{12}x × y = 18

\rm → y + 21 - \frac{1}{21} (y + 21)y = 18

\rm → \frac{12(y+21)-y(y+21)}{12} = 18

\rm → \frac{12+252-y^2-21y}{12}=18

\rm → 12y + 252y - y^2 - 21y = 216

\rm → -9y - y^2 = 216 - 252

\rm → 0 = y^2+9y - 36

\rm → y^2+12y-3y-36 = 0

\rm → y(y+12)-3(y+12)=0

\rm → y + 12 = y - 3

\bf{\underline{Hence:-}}

  • Daughter age = 3 years
  • Mother age = 24 years
