solution : atomic mass of Mg = 24 amu
atomic mass of Cl = 35.5 amu
atomic mass of Si = 28 amu
atomic mass of B = 10.8 amu
atomic mass of Al = 27 amu
now, formula mass of MgCl2 = atomic mass of Mg + 2 × atomic mass of Cl
= 24 + 35.5 × 2
= 24 + 71
= 95 amu
similarly, formula mass of SiCl2 = 28 amu + 2 × 35.5 amu = 28 amu + 71 amu = 99 amu
formula mass of BCl2 = 10.8 amu + 2 × 35.5 amu
= 10.8 amu + 71 amu = 81.8 amu
formula mass of AlCl3 = 27 amu + 3 × 35.5 amu
= 27 amu + 106.5 amu
= 133.5 amu
