16. Three resistors are connected as shown in the diagram.
1022
C
A
5 22
B
1 amp.
mm
15 22
Through the resistor 5 ohm, a current of 1 ampere is flowing.
(i) What is the current through the other two resistors ?
(ii) What is the p.d. across AB and across AC?
(iii) What is the total resistance ?

Answer:

Q1. I=IR2/R1+R2

=1×15/10+15

=15/25=0.6A

I=IR2/R1+R2

=1×10/10+15

=10/25=0.4A

Q2. Pd across AB,

V=5V

Pd across AC,

V=AB+BC

=5V+6V(1/R=1/R1+1/R2)where R1 is 10 and R2 is 15.

=11V

Q3. Total resistance =5ohm+6ohm

=11 ohm
