16. Two numbers are in the ratio 4: 5. If the
first number is decreased by 3 and the
second number is increased by 3, the ratio
becomes 3:5. Find the numbers.​

Let the first no. = x

and the the second no. = y

x : y = 4 : 5

( x/y ) = ( 4/5 )

x = 4y/5

Now, according to the question

the first no. becomes = x-3

and the second no. becomes = y+3

( x-3 ) : ( y+3 ) = 3 : 5

( x-3 ) / ( y+3 ) = 3 / 5

5x - 15 = 3y + 9

5x - 3y = 24

Now put the value of x

5 ( 4y/5 ) - 3y = 24

4y - 3y = 24

y = 24

So, x = 4y/5 = 96/5
