Let the selling price be 100.

given: discount of 20%

therefore ,after discount selling price becomes

SP - 20/ ×100

100

=100 - 20

=80

Now 80 rupees becomes new selling price

Also shop keeper gets profit of 20%

We know that

Cost price =Selling price - profit

CP = 80 - 20/ ×100

100

CP = 60

So the % written by shopkeeper over cost price will be.....

SP-CP/ ×100

100

=100-60/ ×100

100

=40%
