let the boy's age be x
let grandpa age be y
From the question,
y-16=x+8........(1)
y+8=3x...........(2)
by solving (1)&(2)..
we get,
2x-32=0

x=16.
that is , the boy's age is 16, and 8 years ago his age will be 16-8= 8...
substituting x in any one equn,..(2)
x-y+24=0
16-y+24=0

y=40..
then,8 yes before means,
40-8=32.
therefore the ratio b/w the boy and his grandpa 's age 8 yes before will be......
8/32=1/4

ans: 1/4

let your present age be x yearsy

let your grandfather present age be y years

y-16 years ago your grandfather age was 8(x-16)

y+8 year after their age will be 3(x+8) years

so

y-16=8x-128

=>8x-y=112. ------------1

also

y+8 =3x+24

=>y-3x=16. --------------2

adding eq 1 and 2

5x= 128

x=128/5

x=25.6

y=92.8

the ratio of their age 8 years ago was 1:4
