SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The range and co-efficient range

3, 7, 21, 24, 37, 40, 45

CONCEPT TO BE IMPLEMENTED

For a given set of observations

1. Range = Maximum value - Minimum Value

2. The coefficient of Range

 =  \displaystyle \sf{ \frac{Maximum \:  value -   Minimum  \: Value}{Maximum  \: value +   Minimum  \: Value} }

EVALUATION

CALCULATION OF RANGE

Here the given set of observations are

3, 7, 21, 24, 37, 40, 45

Maximum value = 45

Minimum value = 3

∴ Range

= Maximum value - Minimum Value

= 45 - 3

= 42

∴ Range = 42

CALCULATION OF COEFFICIENT OF RANGE

The coefficient of Range

 =  \displaystyle \sf{ \frac{Maximum \:  value -   Minimum  \: Value}{Maximum  \: value +   Minimum  \: Value} }

 =  \displaystyle \sf{  \frac{45 - 3}{45 + 3}  }

 =  \displaystyle \sf{  \frac{42}{48}  }

 =  \displaystyle \sf{  \frac{7}{8}  }

= 0.875
