By using law of conservation of momentum

 m_{1} v_{1} + m _{2}v_{2} =  m_{1}u_{1} + m_{2} u_{2}

 (m_{1} + m _{2})v_{total} =  m_{1}u_{1} + m_{2} u_{2}

( 2+4 ) v = 2×8 + 4×2

6v = 16 + 8

6v = 24

v = 24 / 6

v = 4 m/s
