\large\bold{To~find~:}

The distance between the wall and the lower end of the ladder { i.e., the length of BC }

Here, we get a right ∆ABC

\large\therefore\mathtt{AC^{2}=AB^{2}+BC^{2}} ( Pythagoras theorem )

\large\mathtt{→BC^{2}=AC^{2}-AB^{2}}

\large\mathtt{→BC^{2}=17^{2}-15^{2}}

\large\mathtt{→BC^{2}=289-225}

\large\mathtt{→BC^{2}=64}

\large\mathtt{→BC={\sqrt{64}}}

\large\therefore\mathtt{BC={\underline{\underline{8m}}}}

Hence, the distance between the wall and the lower end of the ladder is 8m
