Given :  A mountaineer starts from Camp A and proceeds East to Camp B which is 4 km away From  Camp B he proceeds to Camp C, 5 km to the South. From there, he returns and proceeds 12  km to Camp 'D' via Camps B and A.

To Find :  How far is he away from Camp A

Solution:

           NORTH

WEST                 EAST

          SOUTH

               D----3 km .....A ........4 km ..........B

                                                              5 km

                                                                C

. A mountaineer starts from Camp A and proceeds East to Camp B

Man is  4 km East of  A

From  Camp B he proceeds to Camp C, 5 km to the South.

Man is  4 km East  & 5 km South from A

he returns and proceeds 12  km to Camp 'D' via Camps B and A

out of 12 km 5 km required to reach back B

More distance remained to be covered = 12 - 5  = 7 km

Now he go via campus A

hence 4 km to reach back at  A

Now further 7 - 4 = 3 km distance to be covered to reach D

Hence D is at 3 km from  A

He is 3 km from A
