Given:

Bread comes in a bunch of 8 pieces

The Jam comes in a pack of  6 pieces

Number of packets of bread supplied to school = x

Number of packets of jam supplied to school = y

Number of packets of bread supplied to hospital = 3x

To find:

i) Number of students in school

ii) Value of x

iii) Value of y

iv) Value of 3x

Solution:

i) The number of students is a common multiple of 8 and 6.

Lowest Common multiple of 8 and 6 = 24.

Now multiple of 24 between 500 and 550 are 504 & 528.

The only option is 504.

Hence the number of students in the school is 504.

ii) Number of packets of bread are supplied in the school= total number of students / 8

= 504 / 8

= 63

iii) Number of packets of jam are supplied in the school= total number of students / 6

= 504 / 6

= 84

iv) Since given that the number of bread supplied in hospital is 3 times the number of bread in the school,

so the number of packets of bread delivered in hospital = 3 X 63 = 189 packets
