The L.C.M (least common multiple) of 5 and 9 is 45.

Making the denominator of each fraction equal to 45, we have

5/9  = (5 ×3)/( ×3) = 15/27 and 7/12  = (7 ×2)/(12 ×2) = 14/24

Clearly, 45 > 24

 Now, 45/18 > 24/18

Therefore, 5 : 6 > 7 : 9.
