Example: Wheels of tractors are made wider than other vehicles because generally tractors are used in sandy and muddy fields. To increase pressure produced by it's Tyres, large sized Tyres are used on it so that it can easily run over field with less pressure.

Answer:

I ) Pressure is increased by reducing the surface area

eg: the ends of nails are made pointed so that large pressure is exerted through the pointed end and they can be driven into, with less effort

ii) pressure is decreased by increasing the surface area

eg: wide wooden sleepers are placed below the railway tracks so that the pressure exerted by the iron nails on the ground becomes less
