Answer:-

Given:

Sum of two numbers = - 5

Let the numbers be a and b.

⟶ a + b = - 5 -- equation (1)

Also given that,

Difference between the numbers = - 18

⟶ a - b = - 18 -- equation (2)

Add equations (1) & (2).

⟶ a + b + a - b = - 5 + ( - 18)

⟶ 2a = - 23

⟶ a = - 23/2

Putting the value of a in equation (1) we get,

⟶ - 23/2 + b = - 5

⟶ b = - 5 + 23/2

⟶ b = ( - 10 + 23)/2

⟶ b = 13/2

Hence, the two required numbers are - 23/2 & 13/2.
