Let the present ages of man and his son be x and y respectively.

First condition,

Five years ago, age of man = x-5

Five years ago, age of his son = y  - 5

According to question,

x - 5 = 7(y - 5)

or, x - 5 = 7y - 35 or, x - 7y = -30...........(1)

Second condition,

Age of father after five years = x+5

Age of son after five years = y+5

According to question,

x+5=3(y+5) or, x+5 = 3y+15 or, x - 3y = 10

Solving equation (1) and (2) we get, x=40 and y=10

So, man's age is 40 yrs and that of son  is 10.
