Solution :-

Given : The present ages of Ram and Shyam are in the ratio 5 : 6.

Five years ago, the ratio was 4 : 5.

Let the present ages of Ram and Shyam be 5x and 6x respectively.

According to the question,

=> (5x - 5)/(6x - 5) = 4/5

=> 5(5x - 5) = 4(6x - 5)

=> 25x - 25 = 24x - 20

=> 25x - 24x = - 20 + 25

=> x = 5

Hence,

Their present ages are :

Ram's age = 5x = 5 × 5 = 25 years

Shyam's age = 6x = 6 × 5 = 30 years.

Answer:

The present age of Ram = 25 years.

The present age of Shyam = 30 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present age of Ram be 5x.

Let the present age of Shyam be 6x.

Five years ago,

The age of Ram = 5x - 5

The age of Shyam = 6x - 5

According to the given information,

=> (5x - 5)/(6x - 5) = 4/5

=> 5(5x - 5) = 4(6x - 5)

=> 25x - 25 = 24x - 20

=> 25x - 24x = -20 + 25

=> 25x - 24x = 25 - 20

=> x = 5

.°. x = 5

Therefore,

Now, putting the given values of x.

The present age of Ram

=> 5x = 5 × 5 = 25 years

The present age of Shyam

=> 6x = 6 × 5 = 30 years
