18. A balloon contains 10 g of air. The air begins
to escape from a small hole in the balloon at
the rate of 4 cm s- and it completely shrinks
in 2 seconds. What is the average force on the
balloon ?
(A) 5 dyn
(B) 10 dyn
(C) 15 dyn

Answer:

The average thrust (force) acting on the balloon is 20 dyne.

Explanation:

Given;-

     Mass of balloon, m = 10 g

Velocity of air (coming out), v = 4 cm/s

                                 v = 4/100 m/s

     time period, t = 2 s

Let the average force (thrust) be 'F'.

We know that, by formula:-

    Force, F = mΔv/ Δt

               F = 10 × 4 / 1000 × 2 × 100

               F = 40/200000

               F = 20 dyne

Hence, the average thrust or force acting by the balloon is 20 dyne.

Hope it helps! ;-))
