Technology helps us solve problems and complete tasks by using the world around us. To do this it is neccesary to understand nature, so that we know if, and to what extent, things are possible. A simple example is solving the need to lift heavy objects using a lever: physics tells us that the longer the lever arm, the easier it is to lift the object. Therefore, we may construct larger levers.
