18.) Divide 5000 among A, B, C and D so that A and
B together get 3/7thof what C and D get together, C
gets 1.5 times of what B gets and D gets 4/3 times
as much as C. Now the value of what B gets is
(a) 500
(b) 1000

Given : Divide 5000 among A, B, C and D

A and B together get 3/7thof what C and D get together,

C gets 1.5 times of what B gets

D gets 4/3 times as much as C.

To Find :   the value B gets s

(a) 500

(b) 1000

(d) 1500

(c) 2000

Solution

Let say B get  =  2x

C gets 1.5 times of what B

=> C gets  = 2x * 1.5 = 3x

D gets 4/3 times as much as C

=> D gets = (4/3) 3x  = 4x

B = 2x , C = 3x , D = 4x

=> A = 5000 - (2x + 3x + 4x )  = 5000 - 9x

A + B   =  (3/7 ) (  C + D)

=> 5000 -9x  + 2x  =  (3/7) (3x + 4x )

=> 5000 - 7x  = 3x

=> 10x = 5000

=> x = 500

Hence B gets   =  2x   => 2 * 500  = 1000
