Given points ;

  • A(4,-6)
  • B(-7,-4)

Given that y-axis divides the line AB.

Let it be in the ratio m:n

We know that on the x axis the x-coordinate = 0

Thu by using section formula ;

  • Thu by using section formula ;x = (mx2 + nx1)/(m+n)

  • 0 = -7m + 4n/m+n
  • 0 = -7m + 4n
  • 7m = 4n
  • m/n = 4/7

Thus y-axis divides the line in the ratio m:n = 4:7
