Given:

A high wall surrounds the garden on three sides.

The garden is divided into four parts by  two bisecting water channel with paved walkways[khiyabans), which terminates at two gates

Its plan, based on the description of Islamic paradise garden, is known to have inspired from the  Taj Mahal

To find:

(a). The water channel is 3m x 4m x 5m. how much water it can hold?

(b). To clean the minaret top a ladder was built. If the height of minaret is "o" m and the  ladder needs to be placed at a distance of "e" m from the base. The length of the ladder  should be?

(c). The radius of this garden is 35 m find the length of the boundary

(d). The surface area of the spherical dome is found to be 308 sqm. The radius of it will?

(e). There are three square flower beds of side 7m, what is the total area of these square  flower beds?

Solution:

(a). Finding how much water can the water channel hold:

The dimensions of the water channel:

length = 3 m

breadth = 4m

height = 5 m

∴ The capacity of the water channel is,

= Volume of a cuboidal shaped water channel

= length × breadth × height

= 3 × 4 × 5

= 60 m³

Thus, the water channel can hold 60 m³ of water in it.

(b). Finding the length of the ladder:

The height of the minaret = o m

The distance between the ladder and the base of the minaret = e m

By using the Pythagoras theorem,

The length of the ladder = \underline{\bold{\sqrt{o^2 + e^2}\:meter }}

(c). Finding the length of the boundary:

The radius of this garden = 35 m

Therefore,

The length of the boundary of the garden is,

= Circumference of the garden

= 2\pi r

= 2 \times \frac{22}{7} \times 35

= 2 \times 22 \times 5

= 220 m

(d). Finding the radius of the dome:

Let's assume "r" meter as the radius of the dome.

The surface area of the spherical dome = 308 m²

4 \pi r^2 = 308

\implies 4 \times \frac{22}{7} \times r^2 = 308

\implies r^2 = \frac{ 7 \times 308}{22 \times 4}

\implies r^2 = 24.5

\implies r = \sqrt{24.5}

\implies r = 4.9 ≈ 5 m

Thus, the radius of the spherical dome will be 5 m approximately.

(e). Finding the total area of the square flower beds:

The side of each flower bed = 7 m

No. of square flower beds = 3

∴ The total area of 3 flower beds are,

= 3 × Area of each square flower bed

= 3 × (side)²

= 3 × 7²

= 3 × 49

= 147 m²

Thus, the total area of the square flower beds is 147 m².
