Cell organelle 'A' is Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (SER) and 'B' is Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER).
i). Differentiate between A and B.
- The main difference between Smooth and Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum is that RER contains ribosomes on its surface, which is absent on the surface of SER, i.e. RER contains Ribosomes and SER does not contain Ribosomes.
- Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum is used for protein synthesis, while Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum serves for lipid synthesis.
- Also, RER is organized in form. of cristae and tubules, while SER has vesicles and tubules.
- RER develops from nuclear material i.e. chromosome, on the other hand, SER develops from the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum itself.
- RER is situated in the middle or near the cytoplasm, although SER is present at the periphery i.e. near the cell membrane.
ii). Mention one function of each A and B.
- Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum is used for protein synthesis.
- The smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum serves for lipid synthesis.
