Q can complete the work in 80 days. hence the correct option is (B).

P can complete a job in 60 days. Q is 25% less efficient than P.

We have to find the time in which Q can complete.

  • It is question based on time and work.
  • The most important fundamental concept of time and work is, efficiency of a person is inversely proportional to time taken by it to do the work.
  • In short, E₁/E₂ = D₂/D₁

Here Q is 25 % less efficient than P

means, If P = 100 then, Q = 75

∴ Efficiency ratio of P and Q = 100/75 = 4/3

As We know, efficiency inversely proportional to time taken to do the work.

∴ the ratio of time taken by P and Q = 3/4 [ because ratio of efficiency is 4/3 ]

Let proportionality constant is x

so time taken by P = 3x and time taken by Q = 4x

∵ Time taken by P to complete the work = 60

so, 3x = 60 ⇒x = 20

now Time taken by Q to complete the same work = 4x = 4 × 20 = 80 days.

Therefore time taken to complete the work by Q is 80 days.
