on subtracting this equation from 2x+6Y=6 we get

Given: x-y=3

y =3+x

2x + 6y=6

2x + 6(3+x) = 6

2x + 9 +6x = 6

8x + 9 = 6

8x = 6-9

x = -3/8

y = 3+(-3/8)

= 24-3/8 = 21/8
