we have the data

Let the present ages albert=5x

the present age of nelson =7x

age of two persons 18 year ago are  are

(5x – 18) and (7x – 18) years

(5x – 18)/(7x – 18) = 8/13

hence

13(5x – 18) = 8(7x – 18)

65x – 234 = 56x – 144

 9x = 90

Therefore, x = 10

Hence age of the two persons are 50 and 70 years.
