During eighteen century France was divided into three categories called estates. These were :
First estate : it consists of clergymen. They were rich people usually belonging to royalty.
Second estate : It consists of nobles. they were respected part of the society. Usually clergymen and nobles enjoyed all the privileges.
Third estate : It consists of common people and slaves. most of them were peasants. The third estate had to pay a direct tax to the state known as taille. Indirect tax was imposed on tobacco , salt and other everyday items.
