During electron transitions, when electron jumps from higher energy level to lower energy level it emits energy in a form of radiation spectrum due to low energy capacity of lower shell than that of higher shell. Hence this radiation spectrum is known as emissions electron spectra.

And when electron jumps from lower energy level to higher energy level, energy is absorbed by electron due to high energy capacity of higher shell.Hence this absorbed radiations are called absorbed electron spectra.

When the electrons in the atom are excited, for example by being heated, the additional energy pushes the electrons to higher energy orbitals. When the electrons fall back down and leave the excited state, energy is re-emitted in the form of a photon. ... These emitted photons form the element's spectrum.
