The redox reactions can be defined in the following ways.

1)Redox reactions are the reactions in which the oxidation and reduction process are carried out simultaneously i.e. one reactant is getting reduced by gaining of electrons while the other gets oxidized by loosing of electrons.

2) Redox reactions can be defined as the reactions in which one of the reactant gains oxygen or loss hydrogen gets oxidized and the other substance gains hydrogen or loss oxygen get reduced.

2PbO is reduced to 2Pb
C is oxidising to CO2
Oxidising agent - 2PbO
Reducing agent - C

Reaction in which oxidation and reduction process occurs simultaneously is called redox recation.
CO2 is oxidised substance
PbO is reduced substance
